Welcome to ‘A Little Bit of Rough’ – unique woodland retreats, set in 20 acres of private woodland ‘Spindleberry Woods’ nestled in a secret location in rural Rutland, not far from the market town of Uppingham.
A Little Bit of Rough offers Posh Camping in our four beautifully appointed large canvas lodges, and new for 2022 The Rocket Lodge. Giving you the opportunity to get close to nature, appreciate the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside, immerse yourself in a simpler way of living and enjoy the many attractions the county of Rutland has to offer.
We do not provide details of our exact location on our website as we would prefer for it to be our little secret with you. Instead, when you book, we will provide you with full details including map and directions…..we promise, you wont be disappointed when you arrive!
Please note: due to the abundance of wildlife that share our woodland with us and call it their home too, pets are not permitted to stay.
We look forward to welcoming you all and hope that you all love it as much as we do.
A Little bit of Rough is committed to minimising its impact and that of our guests on the natural environment. Where possible we use sustainable and green energy sources to light and heat our lodges.
All wastewater is treated on site using innovative technology and the natural environment. A Little bit of Rough is committed to recycling as much of its waste as possible and provide extensive recycling facilities for our guests.
We are also committed to the maintenance of the woodland as a haven for wildlife. We continue to manage the woodland, plant trees, and create new habitat.
Electricity – In our canvas lodges we do not have any power outlets. There are solar powered facilities (weather permitting) for charging phones & tablets. We do however have a large fridge with small freezer in each canvas lodge.

Our luxurious canvas lodges each sleep up to 6 guests (4 x adults max) . The lodges comprise of a King Bedroom, a Twin Bedroom and our unique Cabin Bed - every child's favourite bed!
Each lodge has its own en-suite bathroom with roll top bath and wash basin, and a separate toilet room located to the side of the lodge next to the bathroom.
At the heart of the lodge is our wood burning stove: it will keep the lodge warm in all weathers, and provides a means of cooking.
We do also provide a small gas ring so that you can enjoy that all important cup of coffee, or tea without having to light the stove. Each lodge has its own BBQ area.
The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and glassware. There is also a solar powered fridge/freezer. The dining area has a 6 seater dining table and benches.

We are very lucky not to have any major towns or cities creating light pollution in the county of Rutland, so star gazing at Spindleberry Woods is absolutely amazing.
